Home to the Indo-Pacific Permit!

About The Destination

The Amirante Islands are made up of the Étoile, D’Arros, Marie Louise, Desnoeufs, Boudeuse, African Banks, Rémire Reef, and Poivre Atoll. Despite being discovered in 1503, they are largely unpopulated and are one of the most desirable fishing destinations for both fly fishing for Indo-Pacific Permit and offshore fishing.

The atolls have shallow lagoons surrounded by reefs and flats that are exposed at certain tides. The sheer drop-offs, which step from 60 to 12,000 metres in a matter of kilometres, have rich currents and an extremely healthy marine ecosystem with one of the best blue water fishing areas in the Seychelles.

Fly Fishing the Amirante Islands

Take a look at some of the species you can target on fly with Alphonse Fishing Company™.

Bonefish

Bonefish (Albula vulpes) are the world’s most recreationally targeted saltwater species on fly. A challenge for any angler due to their speed, blistering runs and never give up attitude.

Yellowfin Tuna

Yellowfin Tuna (Thunnus albacares) are torpedo-shaped with a silver belly, inky-metallic blue back, and yellow sides. Both their dorsal fins and finlets are bright yellow. This fish species can be spotted in the (sub) tropical regions of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans.

Bluefin Trevally

The Bluefin Trevally is considered by many anglers as the prettiest fish in the Carangidae family, due its unique mix of colours and a variety of shades from blue to yellow. Saltwater anglers queue up to get a taste of the Bluefin Trevally’s power.

Indo-Pacific Permit

Golden-yellow fins with big, black eyes are the most striking features of an Indo-Pacific Permit. Apart from that, they are well camouflaged on the backdrop of white sand, turtle grass, or coral flats. Their body is a silver, almost mirror-like colour that reflects their habitat, making them nearly invisible to the untrained eye.

Giant Trevally

Targeting Giant Trevallies on the fly is not for the faint-hearted, they are fierce, big, aggressive, and incredibly powerful. They are also quite often completely underestimated by new anglers but are respected by new and seasoned anglers alike. You need more than the best Giant Trevally flies, the best fly rod, and ideal conditions to catch Giant Trevally – they have earned their name as ‘the gangstas of the flats’ for a good reason!

Dogtooth Tuna

The Dogtooth Tuna are among the most powerful and rewarding targets on fly. Found along the deep reef edges and drop-offs, these hard-fighting predators test both angler skill and gear with blistering runs and brute strength.
